Sometimes you want to save a little money, and to be honest during these though times it is almost necessary for most of us to go the cheaper way wherever we can. This applies to your general lifestyle, but it also makes a big difference in your purchases. Even if you have to save money you don’t have to give up on new furniture, as you can actually get them quite cheap. A very common thought is that if you buy a bedroom furniture set, you will save money but that is always not the case.

When I was looking for a new furniture set in my bedroom I thought that I could get away with the least expenses if I bought a ready made set. Are bedroom furniture sets cheaper? Could you get away with even less if you combined it yourself?

These questions were running through my mind as I started making comparison. The first thing that I had to do was to figure out whether the furniture sets were cheap. So what I did was that I went through a lot of catalogues and found out the most affordable sets, but at the same time I wanted something that would fit in my decor. I was looking for something contemporary, and as I didn’t want to paint all the walls and choose new fabrics, the new furniture would have to fit in the color scheme of my bedroom. The bed can usually be hidden very well if you don’t have a headboard, but the nightstands and the cabinet had to be matching, and also they had to match to the colors.

I found a few very affordable sets but at the same time I thought that I could get it cheaper. The cheapest one cost about $600 but it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. So I started combining myself. What I did was that I looked for a particular style – I like minimalistic. The contemporary look was something that I was not ready to give up, and so I dived in to the modern furniture kings catalog – IKEA here I come!

What I found was a great looking cabinet and two nightstands that I liked. I read a few reviews about their furniture and realized that it might not be the best idea to actually buy a cabinet there, even if I could get it cheap, since they have a bad reputation of not being the most durable furniture you can have. So I wrote down that prices of those nightstands and tried to look for something to match.

I went through a few online furniture stores, as they tend to have great prices since they don’t necessarily have a physical store anywhere – they save money that way, and that saved money translates in to cheaper prices. The perfect cabinet was there, and as I was not looking for an armoire – I have a small bedroom – my set was complete. And what did all this cost? Well my self combined bedroom furniture set ended up being just what I wanted, and it was almost $70 cheaper than the cheapest ready made set that I found! And does it look good? You tell me!
